Little Suns, trusting strangers and a book collaboration

Little Suns, trusting strangers and a book collaboration

It was a dull and overcast day.

I had drawn a map outline of Britain.

I had put out a post on instagram asking if anyone fancied sharing my book - On a train home with the Sun in my eyes - it will arrive in the post, they keep it for a week, adding anything they want, before posting it to the next person in the chain. For no reason other than...because.

Twenty one people made contact and we now have a plan (kind of) of where the book is going. The book has already started its journey and is due home in May 2027.

We will, hopefully, have made something truly unique - a beautiful book and a positive experience involving strangers on instagram...

I thought the drawn map of Britain might be good to show where the book would be going

I added Ireland as someone there had volunteered

I only just about managed to fit it on the paper - I moved it a touch closer to Scotland than it should be. Sorry about that.

I pushed pins into the right locations

I took a photo of it but it could not have looked less interesting

in the dull light

and then the Sun came out

not quite winter sunlight yet

but still low and special

and the heavy shadows it throws

that look so heavy they look like you could pick them up

brought the yellow pins to life

like little Suns.

It felt like a promising start to this project.

You can follow the book collaboration here and also on this website once I get round to updating it.
